Dermapen face needling and how it works
Dermapen face needling is a natural form of rejuvenation and skin correction that everyone should consider. Whether you are looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve the skin texture, diminish the appearance of pigmentation or just achieve healthy glowing skin. Dermapen needling is a very successful salon only procedure.
I did extensive research to ensure I offered my clients the best available, then to prove it I tested it myself.
Dermapen 3 provides the most comfortable micro needling skin treatment available. It can be a safer alternative than dermal rollers and many thermal based treatments. It is suitable for most clients and all Fitzpatrick skin types ( skin colours) with the ideal balance of optimal results and minimal downtime.
How Dermapen face needling works
Dermapen face needling uses sterile, disposable, ultra fine, medical grade stainless steel needles passed vertically, horizontally and diagonally across the skin.
Each disposable cartridge contains 12 needles that oscillate and glide over the skin creating hundreds of micro channels. Tiny controlled wounds that stimulate the skins natural regeneration (collagen proliferation) and elastin allowing it to repair to an improved healthier state.
The depth of the Dermapens penetration can be adjusted to suit the clients skin needs so the treatment is personalised. Topical numbing creme and the needles oscillation help dissipate the nerve response.
Topical numbing cream is also applied before the treatment so there are enhanced results and minimal discomfort.
After the first treatment the skin usually looks and feels flushed as if sunburnt this will settle within 12-24 hrs. Some light dusty peeling can sometimes occur 3-5 days after treatment as the skin regenerates. Maintaining good skin hygiene practices, staying hydrated, moisturised and wearing sunscreen every day are essential aftercare.
Improved skin smoothness is usually seen within a few days with ongoing results visible within a few weeks. The new collagen and skin improvements lasting for 1-2year+ especially if taken as a series of treatments or 2, 3 or more.
Collagen induction skin needling can be used to target the whole face, neck or décolletage. One area is treated per session.
To prepare the skin for needling we do recommend a microdermabrasion 2-4 weeks prior to treatment. This ensures the skins epidermis is refreshed, healthy and functioning well.
Ultraceuticals skincare products and licensed sunscreen are our essential aftercare products for consistent and reliable results. For our clients already using Ultraceutials you will probably have everything you need for aftercare.
An LED red light treatment 7-10 days after needling continues the collagen proliferation in the skin.

Robyns skin needling story
I have had great results and my skin is still improving.
These images are from my treatment in 2017. I have continued to have a needling treatment at regular intervals to keep my skin refreshed and glowing. I barely get any flushing now as the skin has become stronger.
Skin needling is relatively quick
The extra time comes with the thorough consultation, skin preparation and after care guidance. The forehead can be a little more sensitive than the rest of the face as the skin is naturally thinner ( we will adjust the depth of the treatment for this area). The Dermapen is powered so there is an element of noise from the oscillating needles and product gliding on the skin which can be a surprise if you’re used to a quiet hands on treatment.
My skin is very responsive to peels and microdermabrasion so I expected a good flush of colour from the needling and wasn’t disappointed. Remember it’s the skins natural wound healing response that is activated so a little flush of colour is a good thing.
After my first treatment I stayed red/flushed for a good 12hrs which is what I expected and at least I could see something had happened. Your skin may not be as red for as long afterwards. I have had 3 treatments and each time the skin has improved and strengthened.
The next day
I was able to wear mineral makeup quite comfortably and returned to work with no one the wiser. Youngblood mineral makeup was originally designed as a safe makeup that could be used after advanced skin procedures.
My skin felt warm and tingly when I cleansed the morning & evening after my first needling treatment. To assist with the regeneration and repair I kept myself and my skin well hydrated, avoided touching my skin unnecessarily and wore full broad spectrum licensed SPF sun protection.
