Caring for your skin when wearing a mask

Caring for your face when wearing a mask

It’s hot working behind a mask, even hotter if you’re exercising. Here are a few simple tips to help you modify your skincare and makeup routine so you don’t breakout or create too much wear and tear on your skin.

Morning

Start the day with a fresh clean skin. Makeup or no makeup choose what applies from the following to you.

Recycled breathing, heat and humidity behind the mask = your own pollution up close. That’s real. Your daily anti-oxidant serum will be your skin saviour.

Choose Ultraceuticals B2 Serum if you have a tendency to redness, sensitivity and dehydration. Use B2 serum both day and night under your moisturiser. The Vitamin B5 – panthenol and hyaluron will immediately get to work to soothe and rehydrate.

For a drier skin, choose Vitamin C10 in the day if your skin is drier and B2 serum for night. Both serums will work to counteract some of the negative effects of oxidative skin stress.

For combination to oilier skins choose B2 serum in the morning, the niacinamide ingredient ( a wonder ingredient useful to all skins for many reasons) niacinamide will help keep the natural oil pathway clear = oil gland to the skins surface. For PM combination to oilier skins choose B2 serum again if you feel dehydrated or Vitamin A serum for skin balance, followed by your usual moisturiser.

Moisturiser

For all skin types long lasting hydration will be the focus of your moisturiser – I personally feel the Ultra Moisturiser performs better in this environment than the Ultra Rich moisturiser, save this one  for your neck and or night time. The moisture binding benefits of hyaluronic acid & the ceramide delivery of Ultra Moisturiser ensure the skin stays refreshed and comfortable.

Make your eyes the focus

Neatly defined brows and darkened lashes – tinted or coated with mascara will add emphasis where you need it most. It’s a good idea to skip mascara on the bottom lashes to avoid melt onto the skin unless you use a heavy duty waterproof mascara.

While eyes are the focus try our eyelash curling = 6 weeks plus of lash lifting, eye opening curl that will last and last.

Foundation, BB cream or minerals?

Choose a product that will look good on your forehead, provide oil control if that is required and sun protection. Remember two thirds of your face is going to be behind a mask.

Youngblood and Ultraceuticals Mineral Foundations tick all the above requirements using 100% natural ingredients while maintaining a fresh healthy long lasting look.

Lipstick

Your little secret tucked away behind the mask and a cheerful surprise when you whip your mask off.

Between Mask changes: I recommend a little spritz with Ultraceuticals antioxidant skin mist to boost skin freshness and add extra anti-oxidant protection.

Masks away- At the end of the day be gentle with your skin.

The B2 micellar cleanse swishes off makeup and cools the skin with soothing Vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and rehydrating hyaluron. Follow this with a second cleanse – Ultraceuticals Milk Cleanser, Gel or Ultra Brightening depending on the skin journey you are following.

What next?

Use the appropriate serum & moisturiser mentioned for your skin type.

Once or twice weekly exfoliate your skin gently & follow with a mask = your skin will enjoy the extra TLC.

Pore Perfector

If the heat and humidity within the mask is over emphasising your pores = Ultraceuticals Pore Perfector is a super effective treatment product that works to keep the pores clear and boost the skins collagen so the pore appears minimised. Used after cleansing before your daily serum.
